We have always strived to provide quality, wholesome food and drink in our Furnaces Tearoom. Since the launch of the 2015 season we have vastly expanded our menu to include for the first time in a very long time hot food and desserts. Such has been the popularity we regularly see people visiting on a running day to dine out first then ride the train second. Over the years our Tearoom has scored a very respectable 3/4 on the Food Hygiene Rating system as implemented by the Food Standards Agency. This was a very good feat considering the infrequent opening times of the Tearoom and the nature of our trade. We are therefore extremely proud that we are able to announce that we have been awarded the coveted ‘5‘ after our most recent inspection on Thurs 30th July. A massive thank you must go to our Catering & Events Manager Jacky McCusker and her husband Tom for all the effort that they have put into the Tearoom this season. We would not have been able to achieve what we have without their hard work. Thanks must also go to the catering team because again, without their enthusiasm and commitment we wouldn’t be able to open our Tearoom and the volunteers, for one, would definitely go hungry. So please, if you like trains or don’t like trains and you find yourself in the area on one of our running days then please pop in , whether for a ride or something to eat, we look forward to seeing you.
