Tuesday 17th November saw the second of the United Kingdom’s named storms “Barney” batter the Telford area with gusting wind speeds of upto 70mph!

In a similar manner to the public rail network the Telford Steam Railway is also impacted by severe weather.  While we don’t have to worry about getting people home from work, we still have great pride in keeping our infrastructure in good condition and not causing “Confusion or Delay”.  Volunteer Kevin Jones, attended site on Tuesday evening to perform a quick inspection of the station at Lawley Village. On arrival Kevin discovered that the new GWR Pagoda waiting room had been toppled in the wind, and the new signpost virtually pulled out of the ground.

Plans were put into place and a working party was arranged for the following weekends to put things right, and despite battling 40mph winds the Pagoda is now ready for visitors during the Santa Specials services.  We are unable to confirm any rumour of finding Ruby Slippers under the wreckage.

I will try ensure there are flying monkeys next time – perhaps Lions and Tiger and Bears too!
