5619 coming to Telford
After successful running in trials at the Avon Valley Railway, 5619 has now moved to the West Somerset Railway
for their gala. In late April, date yet to be confirmed, 5619 will move to Telford to star in our own
Steam Gala on the 4th and 5th May,
before moving on to spend the summer at the Gloucester and Warwickshire railway.
5619 will also visit the 'Pontypool and Blaenavon' and 'Bodmin and Wenford' railways in September.

In steam at last
Yesterday 5619 moved under her own power for the first time since withdrawal in 1991. Just a few finishing touches
left to be completed before she goes off for running in and, subject to satisfactory performance
will have her first public outing at the West Somerset Gala 8-9, 13-16 March.

Nick Aston and I went to the Flour Mill today to discuss possibilities for 5619's hire and running in. Where and when has not been decided yet, but with interest and tenders from 6 railways the future looks good.
The estimated finish date is the end of January 2008 and it is hoped to arrange a further visit to the Flour Mill towards the end of January when the loco will be test steamed on the short length of track at the Flour Mill, in a finished condition.

All members that visited 5619 at the Flour Mill on the 13th October were impressed by the work
that is being done. New injectors, to the correct GWR pattern, have been fitted and much of the copper pipe work has either
been fitted or is in the process of being fabricated. A small crack was located in the crown of the copper firebox.
This had been reported in the original boiler status report when it was withdrawn from service all those years ago.
We had not been able to find it, but when the boiler was filled with water and pressurised for the hydraulic test
the leak made its presence known - with a jet of water. Three crown stays were removed, the leak welded and new stays fitted.
On Monday 5th November an email was received - "You wanted to come and see the boiler being steamed for the examiner, well
he is coming this afternoon." Unfortunately that was too short notice for a visit, however the boiler was steamed, the photo
shows the safety valves simmering, with new clack valves fitted. The boiler was passed and will shortly be reunited with the frames

Another year - but good news - see the following press release.
Telford Steam Railway is pleased to announce that it has come to an agreement with the Flour Mill Ltd
for the overhaul of their GWR 0-6-2 tank locomotive number 5619. The locomotive, which was acquired
by the Telford Horsehay Steam Trust in 1973, steamed on various railways from 1981 until 1991, and has
been out of service pending completion of overhaul since then.
The agreement provides for the Flour Mill to overhaul the engine and obtain a ten year boiler ticket, so that
the engine will again be available for hire upon completion of the work in 2007. The Flour Mill will be
responsible for organizing and supervising the hiring of the locomotive.
Alan Moore, CBE, will fund a significant part of the restoration work, and in due course be reimbursed by
the locomotive's earnings.
Although at present Telford Steam Railway operates over a short line at Horsehay for which 5619 is not suitable,
future plans of the Railway include extending into Lawley, Doseley and eventually into the Ironbridge Gorge,
for which the locomotive will be ideal.
