Restoration in Telford
Built in 1925 by the Great Western Railway, 5619 was saved from
the scrap yard in 1973 and restored to working order by the Telford Steam Railway in 1981.
5619 worked hard for the following 10 years at Telford and on many preserved
railways around Britain. Since 1991, its boiler certificate expired, 5619 has undergone an extensive rebuild ready
for another 10 years of active service.
Having received a loan to top up the original Lottery grant 5619 returned to traffic early in 2008.
5619 was 'run in' at Avon Valley. This was followed by a visit to West Somerset for their 2008 Gala and then
a Gala at TSR to celebrate 5619's return to steam. 5619 then moved to Gloucester and Warwickshire Railway and
is coming to the end of her second season there, where she is on hire to earn her keep, and to pay back the loan.
There have also been brief visits to the Pontypool and Blaenavon and Bodmin and Wenford Railways.
Of course we are still raising funds to pay back this loan, and to pay for the next overhaul in 2018, and any donations
will be gratefully received. We are also interested in finding sponsors to help pay back this loan.
